Percussion therapy has been around literally for centuries, but portable, affordable percussion therapy guns arrived in mainstream fitness just a few years ago. HOW DOES PERCUSSION THERAPY WORK?

Our bodies respond to percussion, or vibration, starting at a very basic level. Basically, our brains perceive vibration as a stress that needs to be mitigated. When the brain perceives percussion, our body naturally activates tissue to protect the internal organs, spine, and brain. This enhances muscle activity and minimizes the potential for injury. These contractions can also improve strength and power.

WHY PERCUSSION THERAPY?

Recovery and preparation are as important as exercise and movement. We call these ”work-ins,” the physiological opposite of workout, intended to combat the rigors and physical stresses of training. Percussion therapy is an ideal work-in, because it improves blood flow, mobility, muscle strength and power development, while reducing muscle tension and soreness.

WHEN SHOULD YOU USE PERCUSSION THERAPY?

Science supports percussion therapy being used in all phases of a workout, before, during, and after. It’s shown to improve blood flow, increase muscle temperature, and act as a neural prime to prepare the body for movement, as well as improve mobility and range of motion. Percussion therapy can also break up fibrous tissues that cause “trouble spots” or “knots.”

WHY NIMBL PERCUSSION SESSIONS?

Our mission is to inspire people to move and to help people feel better in their bodies. And you may be surprised to hear us say: exercise isn’t enough. Our bodies need preparation and recovery, and the science behind percussion therapy makes it ideal for pre- and post-workout, and to work through trouble spots. But just selling you a percussion gun isn’t our style, in terms of education and accountability, so we worked with our partners at NIMBL to create these sessions.

WHAT IS A “WORK-IN”?

A work-in is a term introduced to us by our friends at the Institute of Motion (IoM). A workout is designed to put mechanical and metabolic stress on the body, generally in the form of some kind of strength training or cardio training. A “work-in” is the opposite of a workout and is designed to aid in recovery, regulate the autonomic nervous system, and combat the rigors of training and everyday stress.

HOW MANY VIDEOS ARE IN THE NIMBL PERCUSSION THERAPY SESSIONS?

We have created three guided sessions – a NIMBL Pre-Workout session, a Post-Workout Session, and a Trouble Spots session.

WHERE CAN I PURCHASE A NIMBL PERCUSSION THERAPY GUN?

The NIMBL Percussion Massage Guns can be purchased from the MOSSA Store. We have the larger NIMBL XLR8 and the smaller NIMBL XPRS models available.

HOW LONG IS EACH NIMBL PERCUSSION THERAPY SESSION?

Each guided session is five to ten minutes long. Once you learn some of the pre-workout, post-workout, and trouble spot techniques, you can choose to follow the video step by step, or grab your NIMBL and use it whenever you have time.

WHERE CAN I DO THESE SESSIONS?

We designed these sessions to be done anywhere you can safely sit or stand.
